Front-month CSX falls to 11-month low, prompt-month PRB again eyes 18-month low

Houston—The front-month Powder River Basin and Central Appalachian rail (CSX) coal contracts explored multi-month lows Tuesday in the US over-the-counter market. Brokers reported a bid of $11.70/st for June delivery PRB 8,800 Btu/lb coal along with an offer at $12.30/st, 5 cents lower than the offer reported Monday. S&P Global Platts assessed physical PRB 8,800 Btu/lb coal for June delivery at $12.20/st on Tuesday, down 5 cents from Monday, based on indications of value of $12.10/st and $12.30/st. The initial market value of $12.20/st was tested in the market through 2:30 pm EDT, and no data was excluded from the assessment. Front-month PRB 8,800 Btu/lb coal was assessed at $12.20/st on April 25, but otherwise has not been below $12.25/st since December 2017.
