Nova awards ethylene expansion contract

Nova Chemicals has awarded a lump sum engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract to a consortium of SNC-Lavalin and TechnipFMC to expand its Corunna steam cracker at Sarnia, Canada. The consortium will install two cracking furnaces as part of the expansion, which will raise ethylene capacity by 50%.The project is part of Nova’s recently-announced third-phase investment that includes conversion and expansion of the facility and which is linked to the construction of a new polyethylene plant. The Corunna cracker currently has capacity to produce 816,000 metric tons/year of ethylene, according to IHS Markit data.
