Bayer has scrapped plans to build a $975-million dicamba herbicide plant in the US. “Bayer has decided to stop the construction of a new dicamba active ingredient plant on our campus in Luling, Louisiana,” the company says. The project was at an advanced stage with commissioning scheduled for early next year, but the decision to stop construction is unrelated to a federal court decision that blocked sales of dicamba-based agricultural chemicals, the company says. Originally a Monsanto project, the dicamba facility was expected to supply about one-third of US demand.
