Westlake puts EDC, VCM, PVC, SM on force majeure

Westlake Chemical has declared force majeure on ethylene dichloride (EDC), vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and styrene monomer (SM) owing to hurricane-related disruptions at its production facility in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Westlake shut the facility down last week in preparation for the arrival of Hurricane Laura, which made landfall near the Texas-Louisiana border early Thursday morning. The company subsequently reported that it had not found signifcant physical damage to the Lake Charles facility, and that restart of production units would depend on the availability of electricity and feedstocks.
