Brent and WTI crude oil closed Thursday at the lowest level since January, refecting economic and geopolitical worries. The weekly average Brent price dropped 8.3%to $63.44/bbl, while WTI dropped 8.4% to $53.70/bbl. US toluene dropped in a quiet market, remaining just above reformate values; chemical demand has been low since April. In Europe, the June contract was settled down just $0.50/metric ton; prompt supply remained somewhat tight. Supply was ample in Asia on lower demand into gasoline and para-xylene.
