Thank you for the letters related to our recent article [1]. Right heart function can and does predict mortality in patients with severe aortic stenosis. The paper quoted by Dawes and Alexiou [2] looked at patients who underwent aortic valve repair on the background of severe aortic stenosis and pulmonary hypertension. Pulmonary hypertension may alter the decision to perform an aortic valve replacement, but realistically our hip fracture patients are unlikely to be offered aortic valve replacement before fracture stabilisation, therefore this information will not alter our peri-operative management.
