The issue of humans' effect on the earth's climate will take center stage if the Hollywood set has anything to do with it. Los Angeles' glitterati conspicuously arrived at the recent Academy Awards ceremonies in hybrid-electric vehicles where, in the first-ever "green" staging of the event, they watched Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" take home an Oscar for best documentary. Yet another of Hollywood's A-list- "Tonight Show" host and noted gear-head Jay Leno-has taken eco-responsibility one step further. Leno invited the General Motors Advanced Design Studio to help create a mid-engine, turbine-powered alu-minum-spaceframed supercar-the EcoJet-which was unveiled at the Specialty Equipment Market Association Show in October. EcoJet's genesis goes back to a discussion between Leno, an avid car enthusiast and collector, and Bernard Juchli, the chief mechanic and caretaker of Leno's collection. Leno then turned to Ed Welburn, General Motors' vice president of global design, for assistance.
