The purpose of this study is to clarify driver reaction time which is important to determine an output timing for several warning systems on ITS. The experiment was conducted by using a JARI driving simulator installed with the function of the forward vehicle collision warning system. The hazardous scenario was the sudden braking from 100km/h by 0.6G by the preceding vehicle. The average reaction time from warning output to braking was 0.73 second and 95% of the 20 drivers managed to react in 1.0 second or less. It was more effective to provide the collision warning using 1.0 second of supposed delay time used to calculate the warning distance.
