Allelopathic properties of the seed extracts of aromatic plants

Allelopathic properties of different types of volatile secretions and extracts of the seeds of 10 species of aromatic plants and 4 varieties of Salvia sclarea L. have been investigated. We have determined that volatile secretions of the seeds had the lowest activity, the aquatic and ethanol extracts -- the highest one. The inhibitory or stimulatory effect of them depends on the content of physiologically active substances. Maximum amount of substances inhibiting growth is accumulated in the seeds of Tagetes patula L., T. minuta L., Matricaria chamomilla L. and Salvia sclarea L. of C-785 variety.
