Change of content of free amino acids in maize and teosinte leaves under different water supply

The influence of 7-day drought at panicle stage on the content of free amino acids and amides in the leaves of maize hybrids Maissinte 250 MV and Yuvileiny 60 MV and teosinte has been studied. The majority of free amino acids and amides was observed in the leaves at 10--52 mkg/g of fresh weight. Under drought condition the total amount of amino acids and amides in hybrid Yuvileiny 60 MV was at the control level, while in Maissinte 250 MV and teosinte it increased about 2.5 and 1.5 times, respectively. The largest content of essential amino acids was found in Maissinte 250 MV hybrid.
