It was shown, that damage-induced dark activation of phytochrome in cotton seedlings is dependent on both salt stress during the seeds germination and the red light illumination of the seeds before the germination. The salt stress during seed germination leads to the phytochrome inactivation and to the significant enforcing of the damage-induced dark activation of phytochrome. Preliminary red light illumination of seeds (phytochrome activation in seeds) can prevent salt stress in seedlings.The damage-induced dark activation of phytochrome is more significant at low levels of phytochrome activity in seedling.
