PURPOSE:To raise an etiolated young seedling able to be transplanted to a main field in a short time compared with common young seedling by sowing seed rice to an artificial formed medium, covering the seed with soil, sprouting exclusively in a warm sprouting chamber, transplanting to a paddy field without greening the seedling and carrying out the greening and growth of the seedling in the main field. CONSTITUTION:Rock wool is formed in the form of a mat by adding a water-soluble phenolic resin, etc., as a binder and a nonionic surfactant as a hydrophilization agent to obtain an artificial formed medium consisting of the fertilizer-free formed rock wool medium having a bulk density of 80kg/m3. Germination-hastened seed rice is scattered on the medium, covered with fertilizer-free soil and subjected to sprouting and raising for 4-5 days in a sprouting chamber heated at 32 deg.C. The obtained etiolated young seedling is transplanted to a main field and subjected to greening and growth under conventional growth control. A rice seedling can be raised in high efficiency by this process to enable the transplantation to the main field in a short time compared with common young seedling.
