An outbreak is described of P. pallipes in birch forests of the Rudnyi Altai, Kazakhstan, at an altitude of 1000 m above sea level. Such outbreaks were previously unknown. Some aspects of the biology of P. pallipes were studied. The outbreak was found to be stopped by the spread of a fungal infection.
