摘要

The Internet is becoming a social infrastructure, as seen in the latest developments of broadband Internet, mobile Internet, contents delivery services, and possible integration with broadcast services. However we are not satisfied with the current Internet as an excellent infrastructure in view of reliability and Qos. In the early days and in the drastic growth period of the Internet, a traffic engineering such as (over-provisioning + best effort) could be a realistic practice. In the coning next generation Internet era, it would not be a sufficient practice. Higher QoS service will be demanded in addition to the best effort type service. There are many new business opportunities on the Internet, bandwidth-trading would be one of them. In such a situation, more sophisticated traffic engineering approach for predictable QoS, assured bandwidth etc. will be required. This talk starts with an overview of possible traffic engineering issues in current and in next generation Internet, followed by discussions on a mechanism to realize predictable QoS, and some traffic design issues.
