Marangoni effect on nucleate pool boiling of self-rewetting fluid

To clarify the Marangoni effect on nucleate pool boiling with self-rewetting fluid (SRWF), using butanol aqueous solution as SRWF, a serial boiling experiments have been carried out. During the pool boiling experiments, a boiling system using a horizontal heated wire was employed. The experimental results show that, due to the Marangoni effect, the butanol aqueous solution shows the best critical heat flux. With a high speed video camera, the nucleation boiling process on the heated wire has been recorded. It was shown that, the bubble explosion phenomenon were found during the pool boiling process with SRWF. Utilizing dimensionless parameters, such as thermal Marangoni number (Ma_T) and solutal Marangoni number (Ma_S), the Marangoni effect have been quantitatively analyzed. It can be concluded that the Marangoni convection should be the key factors causing the enhanced boiling characteristic.
