Excessive heat load management - Putting the standards into practice

AT THE beginning of this year new guidelines were introduced into the National Feedlot Accreditation Scheme (NFAS) requesting all feedlots to implement management strategies that would reduce the risk of excessive heat load (EHL) in cattle. EHL requirements were introduced as guidelines in recognition of the ongoing development of the industry tools and the need for feedlots to obtain industry training and support in implementing the new requirements. Also, so that feedback could be obtained on the implementation of the new requirements and utilisation of the new industry tools.
