While developing an predicting method of the material corrosion rates using extremum statistical analysis, salt attachment was measured with ACM sensors installed jointly with NKK Corporation on various parts of exposed test objects in seacoast communities. By using the measured results and airborne sea-salt measurement data on various Japanese seacoasts, a prediction formula was derived for degree of long-term paint swelling, enabling the service life to be predicted of peripheral materials used in solar power generation systems. Previous evaluation methods, such as salt spray testing, did not reproduce the actual operating conditions and thus did not accurately predict the life of the specimen. The developed predection method enables appropriate material selection for peripheral materials in solar power generation system equipment and determination of installable areas of these systems in areas of Japan close to seacoasts.
