A heaterless clear mirror for the bathroom has been developed. The mirror surface has been made hydrophilic and the anti-misting characteristic of the mirror has been realized by a process similar to the familiar one of first wetting the mirror surface with a film of water which absorbs dewdrops. To make the mirror surface hydrophilic, it has been coated with a hydrophilic silicone coating layer. Controlling the composition of the coating materials and the surface roughness of the coating film has achieved sufficiently high hydrophilic qualities to resist contamination by the bathroom environment and sufficient durability to operate under continuous high-humidity conditions. We have also developed an evaluation method for optimizing the bathroom environment.
