A heavy rainfall caused by a stationary front occurred in Western Japan on July 28, 2013. A 381-mm, 24-hour precipitation was recorded at Tsuwano in Shimane prefecture. Based on data from Japan Meteorological Agency, the highest 1-hour precipitation records since 1979 were revised at 3 observatories, the highest 24-hour precipitation records were revised at 3 observatories, and the highest 48-hour precipitation records were revised at 3 observatories as a result of this rainfall. A 244. 5-mm, 2-hour precipitation was recorded at Susa in Yamaguchi prefecture. It was the second highest 2-hour precipitation in all Japan precipitation records since 1979. Due to this heavy rainfall, 115 houses were destroyed and 1376 houses were inundated. In total, 4 persons were killed or missing in 2 prefectures: 3 in Yamaguchi prefecture, 1 in Shimane prefecture. Of these deaths, 2 were attributable to flood, 1 were attributable to sediment disaster.
