A study on distributed control for efficient use of radio resources in a mobile network

In future mobile networks it is essential to support fast mobiles in micro-cells. A mobile terminal passing through a micro-cellular network experiences frequent handovers, and the call might be lost upon entering a radio cell with no available resources. To prevent this, traffic channels can be prepared for fast moving terminals. This paper discusses the reservation of radio resources based on distributed control. Three transmission concepts for the signaling system are discussed, peer to peer communication between the base stations, periodical base station reports, multicast signaling transmission. The number of signaling passing through the central node in the network is evaluated.
