The buzz at the ARS Carl Hayden Bee Research Center in Tucson, Arizona is all about "solving problems so beekeepers and almond growers can thrive," says Dr. Gloria DeGrandi-Hoffman, entomologist and research leader at the laboratory. To further this cause, the Almond Board of California provides funds for targeted research. One such critical project now coming to fruition focuses on developing an easy-to-use, supplemental diet to help get honeybees through the winter months so they will be able to do a good job of pollinating almonds in spring.
