Gradient PZT ceramics with a series of PbZr_xTi_(1-x) solidsolutions in a single ceramic body were prepared by sintering a green compactcomposed of two different PZT layers in contact with each other. Thecomposition of PbZr_xTi_(1-x)O_3 solid solution varied continuously with thedistance from the interface. The dielectric and piezoelectric properties of thegradient PZT ceramics yielded the value of an intermediate composition betweentwo single-phase PZT ceramics on both sides or the value of either of them.
