In industrialized countries, round about 10% of the adult population suffer from allergies to animals (1). Cat allergen (Fel d 1) is a known risk factor for eliciting exacerbations of asthma and other atopic disorders (2, 3). In allergic individuals, for example, mucosal swelling after contact with the allergen may cause substantial problems in breathing with the need to start appropriate emergency treatment without delay (3).
