摘要

Light transmission through a finite one-dimensional photonic crystal is formulated using the theory of multiple scattering. It is shown that optical band gaps of the crystal are created by destructive superposition of waves multiply scattered from the dielectric slabs that constitute the crystal. The effects of the number of slabs and the lattice constant on the band gaps are also studied. (C) 2006 American Association of Physics Teachers.
