Consideration on packet interarrival and radio resource utilization in mobile access networks

Mobile data access services including WAP are booming. The traffic modeling for various mobile internet access services is essential to respond to the demand by developing a new infrastructure based on e.g. IMT-2000. This paper focuses on the access network with dedicated radio channel and discusses the interval of packet arrival and the radio resource release timer. We propose a method to estimate the radio resource utilization from the packet interval distribution. By this method we show the impact of packet interval distribution on the utilization of radio resources.
