In this era of climate change, humans have manifested a desire to make gardening a sustainable activity, and utilizing the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) concept makes sense. It is now generally accepted in agriculture, horticulture and all urban environments that IPM constitutes an extremely useful tool in managing all plant health problems effectively. Oneof the great challenges is safeguarding the natural balance between harmful and beneficial organisms. The health of plants informs us about the equilibrium between the various elements of the environment. A detailed knowledge of diseases and insects is the best guide as to what should be done in the garden during the growing season. This article will evaluate 10 years of research and experiments with IPM in the rose garden at the Montreal Botanical Garden.
