Well, for me, it happened a long time ago. It was a free ticket, valued at 25 cents, to a National Rose Show in my hometown, Louisville, KY. I couldn't let this free opportunity go to waste. The room was filled with long opening "buds" (back then, they were buds) of many colors. Colorful ribbons were everywhere. Silver bowls were awarded for the best exhibits. I was in my mid-thirties. My competitive days of various sports were ending. This was an opportunity to try something new that was less physical, or so I thought. Having asked where I could see what roses looked like in a garden setting, I was given the address of Mrs. C.T. Corn not very far from where I lived.
