Determination of mono-terpene alchohols in Kansho Shochu

We developed a method for the measurement of mono - terpene alcohols, whose characteristics are strongly related to Kansho Shochu. The targeted compounds are nerol, geraniol, citronellol, linalool, and alpha-terpineol. Porapack Q was used as an adsorbent. Kansho Shochu was extracted and concentrated by solid phase extraction in order to determine the mono terpene alcohols. Recovery of each compound by this method was 84 approx 100 percent and was not influenced by compounds other than alcohol. The correlation coefficient of the calibration curve was 0.993 and above. Reproducibility (n = 5) at relative standard deviation was 3.0 percent and below. The relative error was 2.3 percent and below when compared with standard addition method. In the present work, we discovered the existence of Vanillin in Kansho Shochu.
