Curative effect of compression bandage on peritarsitis of dairy cows

To 26 cases of dairy cow which presented peritarsitis kept in the stanchion stall barn, a hock compression bandage was applied by superposing cotton bandage, taping tape, and expanded and contracted bandage. Regarding 4 symptoms of rise and fall, putting weight, swelling and induration of hock were indicated as the score (0: normal, 1: light, 2:moderate and 3: severe) and the totals were compared before and after HB. When the comparison was made concerning the period from the time of onset to that of HB, the score decreased from 5.3 to 5.0 on the average in the group within one week, from 7.8 to 2.8 in the group from one week until one month, and from 7.5 to 5.0 in the group more than one month. When the comparison was made concerning the installation period, the score which decreased from the time of HB was 3.7 on the average in the group within 4 weeks, and 5.1 on the average in the group more than 4 weeks. Good results were obtained by installing HB within one week from the onset, but the difference by the installation period was not observed.
