Magnetostatic energy arising from the magnetic dipole interaction among ordered magnetic moments in ferromagnets is discussed. Due to the long-range character of the magnetic interaction, the energy depends on the shape of the magnets, i.e., the demagnetization field acting on the magnetic moments in ferromagnets is shape-dependent. The field for cylindrical- and spherical-shaped ferromagnets is discussed. The demagnetization field in a homogeneously magnetized spheroid is homogeneous in the whole magnet and is factorized by the demagnetization factor which depends on the ratio of the equatorial radius and the distance from the center to the pole along the symmetry axis.
