WILD POISONOUS SEEDS: SOME NOTABLE SPECIES FROM RATLAM DISTRICT OF MADHYA PRADESH, INDIA

摘要

Some plant seeds contain chemical constituents, such as glycosides, saponins, alkaloids, tannins, acids, etc. which may cause impairment of body functions or even death of human beings and animals. These are ordinarily called poisonous seeds. An attempt has been made to prepare a detailed account ofpoisonous seeds of some plant species occurring naturally in Ratlam district of Madhya Pradesh. In the present paper, 36 poisonous seed containing plant species belonging to 32 genera and 18 families are reported. Botanical names, followed by family, local names, voucher specimen number, habit, toxic part, toxic constituents, toxicity and medicinal uses have been furnished in the enumeration.
