This paper discusses the Instrumentation needs during Spacecraft dynamic testing. The dynamic testing includes ground simulation of mechanical load environments like Vibration, Acoustic and Shock that the Spacecraft encounters during the Launch phase. Since these environments are severe in nature, the test activities are to be carried out with extreme caution. Reliability of instrumentation for control & measurement is essential to ensure that the tests are performed as per intended specifications. Strain and acceleration are the normal measurements that are carried out during dynamic testing. Instrumentation of complex structures like spacecraft requires judicious selection of the elements of measurement system. This paper focuses on the selection of instrumentation based on Frequency Response, Amplitude dynamic range, Noise, Mounting restrictions, Mass loading etc. Further optimization of signal conditioner range settings is also discussed to get the best amplitude resolution and thus accurate and precise measurements.
