There are certain areas where the conventional methods of measurement of current and voltage are inadequate due to the requirement of accuracy or pose of threat to the personal and to the instrument. To overcome such difficulties, a fiber optic microbend sensor has been designed to measure current and voltage. A resistive microbend structure is designed making use of the principle of intensity modulation transducers, the current heats the material which intern gives rise to material expansion. The axial deformation on the fiber in the form of microbend causes mode coupling between the guided mode and the cladding mode, reducing the light intensity falling on the detector. Sensor was used to measure voltage up to 100 V and current up to 0.78Amps.
