The system has a coupling unit (5) for connecting a measuring fiber with a data collection unit. The measuring fiber or an optic-fiber sensor is exclusively inserted into a partial section of a constructed current loop which is mounted in a power transmission zone of an overhead line. A reference sensor is provided for acquiring the ambient temperature of the phase part measuring point. An independent claim is also included for a method for monitoring the load bearing of a high voltage overhead line.
