Revamping Soil Testing Service: A Pre-requisite for Effective Implementation of Soil Health Card Scheme

At the outset, I sincerely thank the Indian Society of Soil Science, especially its Lucknow Chapter, for inviting me to deliver prestigious Dr. D.P. Motiramani Lecture. Born in Sind (now in Pakistan), the illustrious soil scientist Dr. Motiramani (07December 1921 - 22 September 1988) earned IARI Associateship in 1947, Masters in SS&AC from Agra University in 1960, and Ph.D. in Agronomy from University of Illinois in 1965. In his three-decade long professional career at different institutions, Dr. Motiramani contributed significantly in the areas of soil fertility management, micronutrient research, and enhancing productivity of black soils. I have chosen this topic in the honour of Late Dr. Motiramani, as soil testing is one of the most important and time-tested tools for soil fertility management - the area of his specialization.
