Bernie published over 60 books and 700 scientific articles, including 2 publications in the New England Journal of Medicine (Fig. 1) and his masterpiece on inflammatory diseases. He also established 2 dermatopathologic journals-The American Journal of Dermatopathology in 1979 and later in 2000, Dermatopathology: Practical and Conceptual-both of which revealed him as a visionary force in medical publishing.
