A Novel Model for Integrating Nanotechnology Track in Undergraduate Engineering Degree Programs

摘要

A new multidisciplinary nanotechnology track was developed and delivered within Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) and Mechanical Engineering (ME) degree programs at the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). This work represents state-of-the-art multidisciplinary undergraduate curricula in naoscience and engineering that satisfy elements from engineering 2020 objectives. New modes of instructions were introduced, including materials, devices, instrumentation, and applications of nanotechnology. Hands-on project experiences, just in time delivery, and integration of knowledge are just few examples of these modes. Furthermore, a Themed Learning Community (TLC) within the freshman engineering division was established to enhance student learning of nanotechnology. This paper describes the development model of the new nanotechnology track with details on the activities and assessment of research/curriculum, TLC, and summer camps; and the impact of the new presented modes on the existing programs.
