摘要

The features of brittle fracture and wear of Y-TZP-Al{sub}2O{sub}3 ceramics are studied when rubbing it against steel, copper, and titanium under different boundary conditions. The behavior of a ceramics-steel pair under dry friction is governed by the layer enriched in metal oxides. The formation of the lubricating and oxide films in a ceramics-copper pair causes the decrease in the shear strength of friction bond under limited lubrication. The wear of a ceramics-titanium pair is governed by adhesion under boundary lubrication. Deformations caused by load initiate partial transition of tetragonal ZrO{sub}2 to the monoclinic phase in ceramics.
