Golar to award Floating LNG next month and hopes to avoid bidding

Golar LNG expects to award the contract for its first speculative Floating LNG unit next month and is currently involved in negotiations for fast-track projects that will not see full bidding processes. Keppel Shipyard will convert the carrier Hilli for this first vessel while Black & Veatch's technology will be used for the liquefaction topsides. The concept is based on a vessel capable of holding one to four trains with a capacity of around 0.6 tonnes per annum each. Conversion will take around 30 months. Golar is currently focusing on Africa and the Americas. In Africa it is in discussions with producers targeting stranded reserves ranging in size from 400 Bcf to 25 Tcf although the most likely near-term projects are for larger vessels.
