KBR confirmed that it has been contracted by Subsea 7 to perform the topsides design for Chevron's Lianzi project in the unitised zone between the Congo Brazzaville and Angola. As previously revealed by AOG (see 14 February), the decision to go for KBR for the consulting work surprised many in the market as EDG had been expected to pick up the contract. KBR has a long history of major greenfield projects in West Africa but they have mostly been conducted outside the country. The brownfield work involved in Lianzi is specifically seen as the type of work that could be conducted in Angola, although the fact that KBR subsidiary Granherne conducted the FEED must have helped.
