The situation deteriorated for troubled Afren with two separate partners in Nigeria and Kenya seeking damages. The troubled independent has been unable to pay interest on its debts after a catalogue of disasters that have seen it without top management due to corruption and the writing off of assets. The latest deadline for a possible takeover offer by Seplat concludes tomorrow (February 13) and it has until the end of the month to reach a new agreement with bondholders.
