Golar LNG has executed the key agreements for the conversion of an LNG carrier into a speculative floating LNG vessel which will be ready in February 2017. The company is hoping to get a head start on competitors after raising nearly US $600m last week and Keppel Shipyard will convert the carrier HUH for this first vessel while Black & Veatch's technology will be used for the liquefaction topsides. Golar is in discussions with two potential customers in West Africa targeting stranded reserves ranging in size from 400 Bcf to 25 Tcf although the most likely near-term projects are for larger vessels.
