Aker snares Eni's Egyptian Zohr amid growing N Africa chase

Aker Solutions has won the US $120m plus umbilicals contract for the first phase of Eni's Zohr project off Egypt - crucially marking its biggest win offshore North Africa for many years as contractors chase work outside their normal territories. The Norwegian company will deliver more than 180km of steel tube umbilicals to connect the subsea development to an offshore control panel. The umbilicals will be manufactured in Norway and be delivered by the middle of April next year. A host of contractors have been chasing the contracts for the phased project which will eventually take in 30 Tcf of gas or more from the deepwater Shorouk block.
