Micrometrical studies were conducted on the thyroid gland of eight to ten weeks old 24 apparently healthyChabro chickens procured from Poultry Farm, DUVASU, Mathura after approval of CPCSEA. For this study, the chickens weredivided into two groups consist of 12 chickens (6 males and 6 females) in each group reared in summer and winter seasons.Histologically, the thyroid gland was composed of stroma (capsule and interfollicular connective tissue) and parenchyma(follicles and ‘C’ cells). The follicles were filled with colloid produced by the cells lining the follicles. On the basis of diameter, the follicles were classified into small, medium and large follicles. The percentage of small follicle was more followed bymedium and large follicles in both the seasons. The height of squamous and cuboidal epithelium was more in male than femalechicken reared in summer as well as in winter seasonAll micrometrical parameters were higher in winter. The thyroid of thechabro chicken was functionally more active in winter season as compared to summer season.
