Eni is to accelerate appraisal after making a giant pre-salt discovery off Gabon, although it is gas and condensate rather than oil. The Nyonie Deep wildcat was drilled in the shallow water Block D4 in the north of the country and the Italian firm believes reserves in place are about 500m boe. The discovery is only 13km offshore in around 90ft (28m) of water and any gas may have a ready market as it is only 50km from the capital Libreville.
