THE terrorist attacks last week have left us all shaken and, quite honestly, frightened. Our world will be a different place to live. We will never forget these hideous and tragic events and their memory will seal our resolve as a nation and a world of nations to stamp out the evil responsible.While we will never forget, we will move forward as a nation, as a people, and emerge stronger, because we will learn from our mistakes. We have no choice - there is no alternative.Prior to Sept. 11~(th), the bulk of the steel industry in the United States had been in a five-year fight for its very existence - a fight waged against the flood of illegally trade imports entering our markets. Imports were forced here by extreme steel overcapacity worldwide - overcapacity brought on by slowing demand, the collapse of the Russian and Asian economies, and the continued building of steel plants in countries with pre-existing overcapacity.
