摘要

By 2025, the nationwide projected shortage of primary care providers is expected to be between 46,000 and 95,000 (Young et al., 2016).The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (АСА) of 2010, one of the most significant pieces of legislation to influence healthcare, increased the need for primary care providers (PCPs) to 52,000 by 2025. Population growth will increase the need by an additional 32,000 providers. An additional 8,000 physicians will have to be trained to account for every 6,000 currently in practice (Petterson et al., 2012). However, the АСА only gave a one-time allowance of $168 million for training medical residents and $75 million for training nurse practitioners and physician assistants (Young et al.).
