摘要

Technological progress has made smart devices more accessible and available in daily life, thus making day-to-day activities simpler and more efficient. Ad-hoc networks or connecting to the Internet and thus transmitting data has influenced technologies today, so much so, that a wholerange of smart parking and smart vehicle systems have been developed thus leading to smart cities. With the number of vehicles on the roads growing exponentially, the difficulty in looking for and hence parking vehicles (primary focus on cars in this project) has increased and is the majorproblem faced in majority of the cities. This negative effect of the exponential growth in the number of on road vehicles not only leads to people wasting time in finding a free slot but also leads to congestion and increases traffic in metropolitan cities. In this project, the smart parkingsystem helps find the closest free slot and thus reserves that slot. Using the concept of Internet of Things (IoT), the devices in a network transmit data to the internet, which further helps in finding the nearest parking slot from the present location of the car. Just after the closest locationis found, the coordinates of this location is sent on Google Maps. The k-nearest neighbour algorithm is used for this purpose and the precise outcomes for each test cases is obtained.
