The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between emotional intelligence and leadership behavior, leadership effectiveness and athletic performance of college basketball coaches. This study used a paired questionnaire to distinguish subjects to be coaches and players,purposive sample pairs questionnaires, researchers selected 56 coaches and 678 players they led to conduct a questionnaire survey. After the questionnaire collected, 54 valid questionnaires were obtained from coaches; 527 valid questionnaires from players, and the effective recovery rateswere 96% and 77%. The statistical method used Partial Least Squares (PLS) to perform the structural equation model (SEM) analysis. This study found that emotional intelligence of coach has a direct positive impact on leadership behavior and athletic performance, and leadership effectivenessneeds to be indirectly influenced by leadership behavior; leadership behavior has indirect impact on athletic performance through leadership effectiveness; satisfaction and cohesion in leadership effectiveness have a direct positive impact on athletic performance. A basketball coach with goodemotional intelligence can respond to various emotional changes during training and competition, and adjust his leadership behavior in a timely manner to improve the cohesiveness and satisfaction of the players and achieve the best athletic performance.
