New Process Control System for the Sendzimir Reversing Cold Mill of Acerinox SA

The newly constructed No. 6 Sendzimir mill (6ZRM) at Acerinox, SA in Spain, succeeded in rolling its first product in early summer 1999, and has reached full production capacity without any major problems. Mill equipment consists of a single-stand 20-high reversing cold mill, two tension reels and one payoff reel. Production is exclusively stainless steel (ANSI 300 and 400 series) with a maximum feed sheet thickness of 6.0 mm and minimum thickness of 0.15 mm.Toshiba provided most of the main electrical equipment and the rolling control system with CE marking, including the mill setup calculation (MSUC) and all mathematical models. This new system has contributed greatly to stable operation. The MSUC, in particular, provides a sophisticated and fully automated system.
